The Story
Born from 10 TB of travel footage
My name is Andreas, and I'm the sole developer behind ClipCatalog. The idea was born when my wife and I spent over two years traveling across Asia in our camper van. We filmed everything — with a drone, a 360-degree camera, an action camera, a DSLR, and our phones. By the end of the trip, we had collected over 10 terabytes of video footage.
When it came time to edit videos for our YouTube channel, Tinytravelbox, the real challenge began. Finding the right clip among thousands of files, spread across multiple hard drives, was painfully slow. I tried existing tools, but nothing could search video content the way I needed — by what was actually in the footage.
So I built ClipCatalog — a desktop application that uses AI to understand what's in your videos, so you can find any clip in seconds. It runs entirely on your computer: no cloud uploads, no subscriptions to process your footage. Just point it at your folders and search.
I originally built ClipCatalog just for ourselves. But I quickly realized that anyone with a large video collection faces the same frustration — and that the tool I was building could help them too. What started as a personal project in September 2025 has since grown into a full-featured application, and I'm still actively adding new capabilities.
Built for privacy
Every frame of your video stays on your machine. ClipCatalog processes everything locally using on-device AI models — no cloud uploads, no external servers, no third parties ever see your footage. Your video library is yours alone.
